The Basics
What is Mines Casino Game?
Mines is a casino game played on a 5×5 grid of 25 tiles. Before each round, a set number of mines (your choice: 1 to 24) are hidden randomly across the grid. The remaining tiles contain gems — safe positions that increase your multiplier.
You click tiles one at a time. Each gem you reveal increases your multiplier and your potential payout. At any point you can cash out to lock in your winnings. But if you click a tile hiding a mine, the round ends instantly and you lose your entire bet.
The decision you make every time you click is the heart of the game: take the win now, or risk one more tile for a higher payout?

Mine Count Guide — What Changes and What Doesn't
The number of mines you choose is the single most important setting in Mines. It controls the probability of each click being safe, how fast the multiplier grows, and how long you can realistically stay in the round. The house edge (~1%) is identical across all mine counts — you're choosing volatility, not changing your expected return per bet.
The Math
Safe Tile Probability — The Numbers Behind Every Click
Every tile reveal in Mines is a conditional probability event. The formula for the probability of the next tile being safe — given N mines and s gems already revealed — is:
P(safe) = (25 − N − s) ÷ (25 − s)
This probability decreases with every safe reveal because each click removes one safe tile from the remaining pool. Your risk grows with every gem you collect — even if your first five clicks were all safe.
| Mines | 1st click | 2nd click | 3rd click | 5th click | Survive all gems |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 mine | 96.0% | 95.8% | 95.7% | 95.2% | ~4% bust on all 24 gems |
| 3 mines | 88.0% | 87.5% | 87.0% | 85.7% | Cumulative 3-gem survive: ~67% |
| 5 mines | 80.0% | 79.2% | 78.3% | 75.0% | Cumulative 3-gem survive: ~50% |
| 10 mines | 60.0% | 58.3% | 56.5% | 52.4% | Cumulative 3-gem survive: ~19% |
| 15 mines | 40.0% | 37.5% | 34.8% | 28.6% | Cumulative 3-gem survive: ~5% |
| 20 mines | 20.0% | 16.7% | 13.0% | — | Cumulative 3-gem survive: ~0.35% |
| 24 mines | 4.0% | — | — | — | Only 1 gem exists |
Multiplier Growth Example — 3 Mines
As you reveal gems, the multiplier grows to reflect how unlikely your streak is. Here's how a 3-mine game progresses (99% RTP, approximate values):

No strategy changes the house edge. The expected return per bet is identical across all approaches. Strategies differ in session length, variance, and psychological experience.
Context
House Edge & How It's Built In
The house edge in Mines is embedded in the multiplier formula. The mathematically fair multiplier for revealing s gems with N mines would reflect the exact probability of that streak. The actual payout is that fair value multiplied by the RTP factor (e.g. 0.99 for 99% RTP). The result: every multiplier is slightly below the true probability-adjusted fair value — that gap is the house's cut.
Royal Mines runs at approximately 99% RTP (1% house edge). The house edge is constant across all mine counts and all points in a round — revealing your 5th gem carries the same 1% edge as the 1st gem.
