The Basics

What is Limbo Casino Game?

Limbo is a target-multiplier casino game. You choose a multiplier target — any value from 1.01× to 1,000,000× — place a bet, and a random result is generated. If the result meets or exceeds your target, you win your bet multiplied by your chosen target. If the result falls below your target, you lose your bet.

That's the complete ruleset. There are no phases, no decisions after betting, no timing pressure. Limbo is the most stripped-back multiplier game in online casinos — a single number, a single wager, an instant result.

Limbo was popularised by Stake.com as part of their Originals game library and is now a fixture at most crypto-friendly online casinos. Its closest relatives are Crash and Dice — same house edge math, different presentation.

🎯
The key insight: You never win more than your target multiplier — even if the result comes back at 500,000× on a 2× target, your payout is still 2× your bet. The result only needs to meet your target, not match it exactly. Setting a higher target doesn't mean you win more when it hits — it just means it hits less often.

Step by Step

How to Play Limbo — One Round

1
Set your target multiplier
Type or slide to choose any value from 1.01× to 1,000,000×. This is the threshold the random result must meet or exceed for you to win. The win probability updates in real time as you adjust — lowering the target increases your win chance, raising it decreases it.
2
Place your bet
Enter your wager amount. The potential payout if you win is always: bet × target multiplier. A 10-coin bet at 5× pays 50 coins if it wins. A 10-coin bet at 100× pays 1,000 coins if it wins.
3
Press Bet — result is generated instantly
A random number is generated by the RNG. There is no animation to watch, no rising multiplier, no timing decision. The result appears immediately — a number that is either equal to or greater than your target (win) or below it (lose).
4
Result ≥ target = Win. Result < target = Lose.
If you win, your balance is credited with bet × target. Note: the payout is always at your target multiplier — not at the actual result. Getting a 50,000× result on a 2× target still pays exactly 2× your bet. The result just needs to be equal to or above your target.
5
Adjust or use Auto-Bet for continuous play
You can change your target and bet between every round. Auto-Bet mode lets you run a set number of rounds at fixed settings with Stop Win and Stop Loss limits — removing manual input from each round.

Win Probability Formula — Know Your Odds Before Every Bet

Limbo's win probability is the most transparent of any casino game. One formula covers all targets:

Win Probability (%) = RTP ÷ Target Multiplier

Royal Limbo uses 99% RTP (1% house edge). So at any target: win probability = 99 ÷ target. At 2×: 99 ÷ 2 = 49.5%. At 10×: 99 ÷ 10 = 9.9%. At 1,000×: 99 ÷ 1,000 = 0.099%.

The key consequence: changing your target doesn't change your expected return per bet. A 2× target and a 1,000× target both return 99 coins per 100 wagered in the long run. The target choice is purely a volatility preference.

💡
The equaliser: Every row returns exactly 9.9 coins on a 10-coin bet — the 1% house edge, unchanged. The 1,000,000× jackpot target and the 1.01× tiny-profit target both give the same expected return per bet. What changes between them is how those 9.9 coins are distributed: smooth and predictable vs concentrated in extremely rare monster wins.

Know the Difference

Limbo vs Crash — How They Differ

Limbo and Crash share the same underlying probability math, but they feel completely different to play. Understanding the distinction helps you choose which suits you.

Feature
Limbo
Target setting
Set before betting — fixed, no changes once bet is placed
Live decision
None — result is instant, no cashout timing required
Visual element
Number displayed — no rising line, no animation to watch
Psychological tension
Low — result is predetermined before it appears. No watching
Payout on win
Always exactly target multiplier × bet
House edge
~1% (identical math to Crash)
Speed
Instant — suitable for very high-volume auto-bet sessions
Best for
Players who want clean probability without real-time pressure
📊
Key distinction: In Crash, your cashout decision can differ from your intended target due to timing, lag, or psychology — you might hold longer than planned. In Limbo, your target is locked before the round. There is no "holding too long" or "cashing out too early." For players who want to eliminate the emotional timing element from multiplier betting, Limbo is the cleaner format.

Which Target to Choose

Target Selection Guide — Matching Your Play Style

Since all targets have the same 1% house edge, the choice is entirely about how you want your session to feel.

1.5× – 2×
Win ~49–66% of bets
Near coin-flip frequency. Small wins per round. Bankroll drains slowly. Good for long sessions and learning the game.
Beginners
3× – 5×
Win ~20–33% of bets
Win about 1 in 3–5 rounds. Meaningful multiplier per win. Good balance of frequency and payout size.
Balanced
10× – 50×
Win ~2–10% of bets
Wins are uncommon but significant. Losing streaks of 10–50 rounds are normal. Use smaller bet sizes to compensate.
100× – 1,000,000×
Win under 1% of bets
Jackpot hunting. Expect hundreds or thousands of consecutive losses. Tiny bet sizes essential. Same expected value as 2×.
⚠️
High target bankroll warning: At a 1,000× target, you win once in ~1,010 rounds. A 1,000-round losing streak is mathematically normal and expected. Running auto-bet at 1,000× with 1% of your balance per bet, you would expect to exhaust your balance before a win approximately 37% of the time. Always set a Stop Loss when using high targets in auto-bet mode, and use bet sizes of 0.1–0.5% of your session budget per round.

Automation

Auto-Bet — The Core Limbo Feature

Because Limbo rounds resolve in milliseconds and require no live decision, it is uniquely suited to auto-bet sessions. Auto-Bet in Limbo lets you:

  • Set a fixed bet amount and target multiplier
  • Run a specified number of rounds automatically
  • Set a Stop Win (auto-stop when balance reaches a target profit)
  • Set a Stop Loss (auto-stop if balance drops below a threshold)
  • Configure bet increase/decrease on wins and losses (for volatility shaping)

Auto-Bet does not change the house edge or expected return. It simply removes the manual click-per-round requirement. The same mathematical outcomes apply — each round is still an independent random event.

⚙️
Always set Stop Loss in Auto-Bet. Limbo at high targets can resolve hundreds of rounds per minute. Without a Stop Loss, a losing streak at a high target can exhaust a session budget in seconds. A Stop Loss at 20–30% of session budget is a reasonable safeguard regardless of which target you use.

Win ConditionResult ≥ target. The result can be any value above your target — payout is always exactly target × bet.
PayoutBet × target multiplier. Always the target value — not the actual result, even if the result is much higher.
Win Probability99 ÷ target multiplier (on 99% RTP). At 2×: 49.5%. At 10×: 9.9%. Constant formula for all targets.
RTP / House EdgeReturn to Player 99%, house edge 1%. Applies equally at all target multipliers. Cannot be changed through target selection.
Auto-BetContinuous automatic betting at fixed settings with configurable Stop Win, Stop Loss, and round count.
Stop WinAuto-Bet halts when balance reaches a preset profit target. Locks in session gains automatically.
Stop LossAuto-Bet halts if balance drops below a preset level. Prevents runaway losses in high-target sessions.
Provably FairCryptographic system allowing players to independently verify each round's result was genuinely random.
VolatilityHow wildly results swing around expected value. Low target = low volatility, frequent small wins. High target = extreme volatility, rare large wins.
Expected Value (EV)Average return per bet = bet × RTP. At 99% RTP: wagering 10 coins has an EV of 9.9 coins regardless of target.
